Iceland Day 3

If you missed day 1 or day 2

Day 3.  Again another late night I think we got back around 3 or 4 and then woke up again 8.  Today we knew would be another long day because we wanted to drive to Vatnajokull glacier.  It was about a 5 hour drive away, 1 way!  The largest glacier on the island, also this glacier meets a lagoon and is where a few movies were filmed some include Golden Eye, and Batman!

As we were driving we came across this beautiful tall waterfall and decided to make a "quick stop"  Well I didn't hear lets make this quick and noticed that there was a trail going behind the waterfall, and once some members in the group saw me do it they had to too, so it didn't end up being all that quick....whoops my bad....but I think most were happy to go behind.

Our next stop was Dyrholaey.  We saw this on a postcard so we added to our stops.  It was soooooo windy and the waves were huge so we weren't able to go down to the beach and see the side of the mountain (which was what was on the postcard)

Did I mention it was WINDY.  It took all our strength to just stay upright and not be blow over!

David and Bryan getting a better look at the ocean.  Right before this picture a wave came up and SOAKED David!

If you haven't noticed Iceland is full of waterfalls.  Everywhere you look you could see another one.  Especially on this drive I think we were never not in sight of a waterfall!  I LOVED IT!!

We pulled over to take some pictures and the roads were so slick that David was sliding up and down the middle of the road, not to be outdone Michael wanted to slide on the road while be pulled by the car. Never a dull moment!

Glacier! such pretty scenery

The drive we were on was used in the film of Batman, where he gets thrown out of the truck.  We knew it was on this road and this spot looked similar there ya go!

We were losing day light fast! but we made it to our destination Sveitarfelagid Hornafjordu at sunset!  It was crazy we could see the icebergs moving in the water.  We were only there for about 30 min and some in that time had moved a lot of distance.

Once we left there was another cool waterfall we saw on a postcard.  You have to hike to this one, and we debated whether we really wanted to do a hike at night, the Jill said lets do it!  So we did.  The waterfall was cool, but we couldn't see all the cool features about it nor could we get any pictures since it was so dark.

That night we saw the light again, and they redeemed themselves from the night before.  We didn't have as good of a camera set up but still were able to get some shots, plus we got to see them "dance across the sky"
