Iceland day 2

If you missed day 1 here it is.

Day 2.  Bryan and Lindsay joined us today, so they were exhausted since they just landed and we were more rested hahah :)

We asked the front desk lady what were some fun things to do, and she told us about these waterfalls that are created by 100's of little streams that come right out of the ground.  She showed us on a map and we headed out.  We drove the same route we went last night to see the northern lights but was able to see all the landscape since it was day light!  Iceland has so many waterfalls it is crazy.  The fun part of today was being able to stop whenever we wanted walk around and get some pretty pictures of the waterfalls.

We never could quite figure out what the ruins are in the picture below.  The only sign was in Icelandic but the waterfall was pretty.  Lindsay, Bryan, Jill and I decided to go down and walk closer to the waterfall.

One we got closer to it we noticed that just above the waterfall there was more, so we climbed up the rock and went to the next one!!  Mandi and Michael wanted to see what we were doing so they hiked the other side.

By folklore Elves and Trolls were the 1st inhabitants of Iceland.  Elves were good and Trolls were bad.  Trolls would only come out when a child was being bad, and some trolls would then eat the bad children.  Elves live in rocks and so it was bad karma to move rocks in Iceland, so you would see huge rock is random places in peoples yard because they can't move them.  In our hotel even some of the walls has exposed rocks.

We finally made it to Hraunfossar our waterfall destination.  This place was absolutely stunning.  I have never seen water so blue, especially in a river.  All that clean glacier water.

Thoes tiny people on the bridge are Michael and I

We were able to hike around and get really close to the water.  It was going so fast!

The next spot was at hottest hot springs in Deildartungahver.  Funny thing we got lost on our way there so we pulled up to someones house, David got out and asked.  Good thing it was a super nice old lady and she set us in the right direction!

They pump this hot water to various places around the country but the excess they let go into the river.  YES the water was hot even being mixed with COLD river water.

The sun was setting, and it was really cool because we would see it set behind the mountain then we would drive around the mountain and got to see it set again.  It was like a 3 hour sun set!

We stopped and ate in a Tiny town Borgarnes.  We were directed to eat at this small restaurant where it was a husband and wife that run it.  The wife came up took our orders and then went down to the kitchen and cooked them!  The husband was super cute too, he looked up on line where would be the best place for us to see the Northern lights!

Right next to the resturant was this statue that Mandi, Jill and I decided to go check out.  It was dedicated to a slave in the area.  The statue represents a rams horn and a tool used with leather.

THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!!!!!
I'll be honest we were quite disappointed   These pictures are like 30 times brighter then what you can actually see with your eyes.  It was a real strain to see them but the next night they redeemed themselves, I think the mountain range was blocking some of the light.

Proof we were there!
